{"id":3920,"date":"2010-07-03T09:00:50","date_gmt":"2010-07-03T17:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gtdtimes.com\/?p=3920"},"modified":"2010-07-03T09:00:50","modified_gmt":"2010-07-03T17:00:50","slug":"what-do-you-want","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gettingthingsdone.com\/2010\/07\/what-do-you-want\/","title":{"rendered":"What Do You Want?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/gettingthingsdone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/gtdtimes\/2010\/06\/Shuttle-Atlantis-Launch.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3921\" title=\"Shuttle Atlantis Launch\" src=\"https:\/\/gettingthingsdone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/gtdtimes\/2010\/06\/Shuttle-Atlantis-Launch-300x282.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>A Community Contribution from Jim Lindenthal<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>I\u00a0truly believe that David Allen&#8217;s GTD approach works.\u00a0 I have been using the GTD\u00a0approach for almost 5 years and have found that the higher level perspective\u00a0area is really where the power is.\u00a0 Specifically\u00a0around the\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidco.com\/blogs\/michael\/2008\/03\/horizons_of_focus_1.html\" target=\"_blank\">Horizons of Focus<\/a>&#8220;.\u00a0\u00a0 Over the years I have\u00a0focused most of my attention\u00a0on gaining &#8220;Control&#8221;.\u00a0 Collecting all my stuff into a &#8220;Trusted System&#8221; which I constantly review.\u00a0 As a\u00a0Delivery Manager and Consultant, I found myself always in the &#8220;Implementer\/Micro Manager&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gtdiq.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">GTD-Q quadrant<\/a>,\u00a0completing my tasks and staying ahead of everyone that\u00a0is pulling at me.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Years ago, I attended a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidco.com\/seminars\/seminar_miaw.php\">GTD Making It All Work<\/a> seminar and found myself asking one of the David Allen coaches,\u00a0how to define your 50,000&#8242; Purpose.\u00a0 The coach told me to answer the questions &#8220;What do you want?&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0 This simple question sprung a lot of thoughts and ideas which I have documented in\u00a0a MindMap.<\/div>\n<div>Recently\u00a0I\u00a0accomplished something extremely important\u00a0and exciting\u00a0for me based on answering this simple questions.\u00a0 What I want\u00a0is to &#8220;Be an adventurer with my 3 boys&#8221;.\u00a0 What\u00a0our family\u00a0accomplished on May 14th, 2010 was\u00a0to\u00a0visit the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kennedyspacecentertours.net\/?gclid=CILHl_-sraICFZdL5QodG3SYQg\" target=\"_blank\">Kennedy Space Center<\/a> in Florida and see\u00a0the\u00a0last lift-off of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/shuttle\/shuttlemissions\/sts132\/main\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Space Shuttle Atlantis.<\/a> How cool is that!!!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em>Jim is has been a consultant with Keane for 15+ years, primarily working in the field within the New England region. \u00a0 Jim has been practicing the GTD\u00ae approach for over 5 years and has found it extremely helpful in managing both work and life responsibilities and goals.\u00a0 Outside of work, Jim is married with three young boys and enjoys cooking, skiing and traveling.
