One item that came up in my sweep was that for weeks I\u2019ve been putting off answering a publicist\u2019s e-mail asking if I\u2019d write about one of his clients\u2014my failure to reply is gnawing at me. My hunch is that the story won\u2019t fly for timing reasons, but somehow I can\u2019t just write back explaining this. Allen gets excited at my predicament: \u201cIs there anything else you need to research or do before you send that e-mail?\u201d Well, I could e-mail my editor to confirm my suspicion about the timing. \u201cGotcha!\u201d Allen exclaims. \u201cI bet the reason you\u2019ve been avoiding it was that you didn\u2019t fully understand what the next step was\u2014you needed more data.
