{"id":2382,"date":"2009-11-28T09:40:45","date_gmt":"2009-11-28T17:40:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gtdtimes.com\/?p=2382"},"modified":"2022-12-05T07:51:48","modified_gmt":"2022-12-05T15:51:48","slug":"a-quick-guide-to-gtd-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gettingthingsdone.com\/2009\/11\/a-quick-guide-to-gtd-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"A quick guide to GTD and projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gettingthingsdone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/gtdtimes\/2009\/11\/projectsupport.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a>Some of the most common questions we get are about managing projects.\u00a0 Here is how one of the Coaches replied when someone new to GTD was asking how to manage projects and all of the related steps with GTD.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are 3 components to consider with your projects:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Tracking the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">outcome <\/span>on a Projects list that serves as a master inventory of your Projects.\u00a0 <em>For example, &#8220;Complete 2010 Budget.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n2. Tracking the project <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">support<\/span>, future actions and reference for your projects.\u00a0 <em>For example, budget research you have been gathering, that you will use when working on the project. <\/em><br \/>\n3.\u00a0 Tracking the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">next actions<\/span> for the projects, on your context-sorted next actions lists.\u00a0 <em>For example, &#8220;Call Jose in marketing for his dept. budget figures,&#8221; or &#8220;Book meeting to go over taxes.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The key to your next action lists is that they only hold your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">next <\/span>actions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So if you have a project that has 10 steps, but only one of those is a next action (meaning you have all of the information you need to take the action) then only that one would be organized on a next action list.\u00a0 Many people will have some kind of keyword or enough in the description of the next action to tell them what project it relates to.
